11th Annual Rico Stache Bash is March 5th, 2016 at Barley's in the Old City!
The Rico Stache Bash is an annual mustache and beard competition held to raise money for the Small Animal Oncology Department at the University of Tennessee Veterinary School. This event was created by Dave Kirkendol, who wanted to repay the department for being so good to him when he lost his dog, Rico, to cancer. Dave wanted to honor Rico and show his gratitude to everyone at the UT vet school who was so helpful to him and Rico, so he began the first Rico Stache Bash. The first Stache Bash was thrown together relatively quickly and held at the former Sunspot Restaurant location on Cumberland Avenue, but had tremendous support from the local community. Due to the overwhelming response from supporters, animal lovers, and facial hair enthusiasts, we eventually outgrew our former home and have expanded the event which has been held at Barley's Taproom and Pizzeria for the last few years.
On Saturday, March 5th, we will be hosting our 11th annual competition and celebration at Barley's in the Old City, with contest registration taking place from 8:30–9:30 p.m. Our contestants compete in seven categories: Best Overall, Best Mustache, Best Beard, Best Supervillian, Most Creative, Welcome to Puberty and Best Female. Our panel of celebrity judges will determine the winner of each category, so costumes and creativity are strongly encouraged! In addition to the mustache and beard contest, the event includes a silent auction, which will last from 8:30–10:00 p.m., music, trivia, and more. We will also be selling official Rico Stache Bash merchandise, such as t-shirts, posters, and other great items for you to show your support!
